EMI Formula

EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n / [(1+r)^n -1]

  • P = Loan amount (Rs50L)
  • r = Monthly interest (8.5%/12 = 0.007083)
  • n = Months (20×12=240)

Rs50L, 8.5%, 20y: EMI = 5000000×0.007083×(1.007083)^240 / [(1.007083)^240 -1] = Rs43,391

Amortization – Where Your EMI Goes

Initially interest high, principal low. For Rs43,391 EMI:

  • Month 1: Interest Rs35,416, Principal Rs7,975
  • Month 120 (10y): Interest Rs22k, Principal Rs21k
