Retirement Savings Calculator

Retirement Savings Calculator

Project retirement wealth in today’s money using contributions, employer match, inflation and multiple return scenarios.

Methodology and assumptions

Savings compound monthly. Employer match is treated as an annual percentage of current salary divided monthly. Today’s-value result discounts the projected balance by inflation.

Limitations: Returns and inflation are uncertain; taxes, fees, contribution limits and salary changes are excluded.

Using retirement projections responsibly

This calculator compounds the current balance and monthly contributions, including the employer-match assumption entered by the user. It shows three return scenarios rather than presenting one forecast as certain. The inflation-adjusted result converts the base projection into approximate today’s purchasing power.

Worked interpretation

A large future nominal balance can have substantially lower purchasing power after decades of inflation. Review both figures. Also test a lower return, a higher inflation rate and a later contribution start. Contribution limits, vesting, taxes, plan fees, withdrawal rules and salary changes are not automatically inferred.

For US workplace plans, verify current contribution limits and plan rules rather than relying on a hard-coded limit. For India or another country, use the projection as general mathematics and apply the relevant local tax and retirement rules separately.

Frequently asked questions

Are projected returns guaranteed?

No. Investment returns, inflation and fees vary, and the calculator provides scenarios rather than a promise.

What does today’s money mean?

It discounts the future nominal balance using the entered inflation rate to estimate present purchasing power.

Is employer match included?

Yes, the entered match percentage of salary is converted to a monthly contribution assumption. Verify vesting and match rules with your plan.
